This show aired the same time as BIG and had the same young man turned older theme. Unlike BIG, the boy actually aged into his twenty-five year old body not transferred into somebody else. The plot of ILLTR was still unique enough that it kept me wondering what would happen next. I love how it wasn't your average rich-boy-loves-poor-girl sort of plot. Actually it was quite the opposite.
That aside, it was hilarious. I found that I occasionally had to stifle my laughter so other people didn't think I was crazy.
These characters were different from characters seen in most dramas. Instead of a crazy/hot-tempered/klutz/almost brain dead girl, we got Lee Tae Ri, a strong, poised woman who is accomplished and a role model to all young ladies. She might be slightly eccentric but it works! Lee Tae Ri is attractive with a great educational background, but has lost her belief in love after after being hurt by her first love and her greedy, jealous family.
Geum Eun Dong / Hwang Min Soo, the fourteen year old turned twenty-five was more mature than most adults. I was impressed by his insight and wisdom.
”Even a fourteen year old has a beating heart and feels sad, mad or hurt. When I think of that person, it feels as though a cricket has entered my heart…my heart keeps crying. How can you expect me to ignore all that?”
Honorable Mention: Baek Seung Hwan
Baek Seung Hwan, who played fourteen year old Eun Dong, played the part to perfection. It's hard to believe he was really only fourteen at the time. You can catch him in Jang Ok Jung as young Hyun Chi Soo. If I were you, I would keep an eye out for this talented young man. He's a scene steal-er!
Here's a "degree of separation" trivia for you: who was in the 2011 movie "Silenced" or "Crucible" with Gong Yoo who played Gyung Joon/Seo Yoon-Jae in BIG?
DING! DING! DING!
Baek Seung Hwan! (highlight to reveal text)
Absolutely my cup'a tea. 5 out of 5. The subject matter was handled well and the ending was what BIG aspired and failed to be: heart-brokenly beautiful and deep.
Yes, I do.
