THE THREE R'S
Review: Warming! Contains spoilers!
The premise of this book was that it purposed to merge vintage photographs with text to create a story. Sadly, this book read like it. The photographs were awkwardly inserted with explanations. Or vice-versa.
His father is an emotionally, unmotivated, drunk wanna-be ornithological wreck whose only use is to foster Jacob to Wales where he abandons him in a foreign land where a sheep-murderer is on the loose. His mother is an emotional unavailable drunkard/rich idiot. Yet both have more personality than Jacob.
I have a feeling Jacob was supposed to be a smart-aleck: wise and witty. Instead he comes across as an irritating, over-indulged clod. I bet Hollow City is about how he’s a vacuous creature created by the Hollowgasts to ensnare Peculiars into leaving their loops before devouring them.
I like Miss Peregrine though. I like the twist with the home and the loop even though I figured out most of the plot points half-way through the book but I just. Could. Not. Get. Over Jacob.
